Building and Grounds
December 2006
Thanks to all of you who came out on the Beautification Days to help clear the bus loop hill as well as help plant 22
trees and spread pinestraw over the entire hill. I was amazed at how quickly it went. If we didn't have all of you volunteering
it might still be a work in progress!
Thanks also to Roxanna Carter who donated and planted
the pansies at the front entrance and at the Turner Creek
sign. They look great! If you have questions about Buildings and Grounds, please contact
Jacqui Bunner at tigger@intrex.net or 303-6473.
October 2006

wheel barrows to work on the school grounds to help keep our

me an email to let me know if you will be able to attend at

Shade Structures
Food for Shade: The PTA is raising money so that we can install
shade structures over both the K-1 and 2-5 playgrounds. With our school
being on a year-round calendar, it is very important that we get shade
over the playground equipment. During the summer months (June-
August) the UV Index for Raleigh ranges between 7-9. Shade Structures
shield over 90% of harmful UV rays. They also provide up to 95% cooling
shade, which keeps the playground equipment cooler.
All proceeds from Food for Shade are being put in the Shade Structure
Fund. We are working toward a goal of $50,000, which would pay for
both shade structures. Jersey Mike's Subs, Johnny's Pizza, That Pizza Thing!
and Golden Corral have agreed to host a Food for Shade event on
Thursday evenings through June. Food for Shade will help us earn
approximately $500 each month with our current participation.
Thanks so much for the overwhelming support on our Food for Shade
nights We will be sending out letters to local businesses and doctors' offices
asking for donations to this worthy cause. Hopefully, the community will
see how important this is and help us reach our goal. If you have any
questions or feedback, please feel free to contact Jacqui Bunner at
303-6473 or tigger@intrex.net.

Shade Structures
We are currently in the process of raising money to purchase shade
structures to go over the playground equipment on both playgrounds.
We are still getting quotes, but the price will be around $20,000
installed per shade structure. If you have any questions or would like
to be involved in helping with the Shade Structure project, please
email Jacqui Bunner, Buildings and Grounds Chairperson, or call 303-6473. All monies raised at the Eating Out
Together Nights will benefit the Shade Structures.
Eating Out Together Nights
Thank you so much to families who went to the Chick-Fil-A Night.
We packed the restaurant! I know my children had a blast and I didn't
have to do any dishes that evening! All monies raised will go to the
Shade Structures. I hope to see you at our next Chick-Fil-A Night at
Beaver Creek Commons on Feb. 16 .
Fall Beautification Day Thanks!
Thank you so much to all the parents who participated in the Fall
Beautification Day at TCE. I hear that all 500 daffodil bulbs were
planted in record time and parents with trucks got more mulch. What
a difference your hard work has made to our school. I can't wait to see
all the beautiful daffodils this spring! Another huge thank you to Hala
Issa. As I was sick, she got the food, organized everyone that day and
did a fantastic job. What a great friend!
