Legislative Commitee
December 2005
All teachers and administrators will be getting a raise, starting with
the next paycheck. This is the first step taken by Gov. Easley and the
General Assembly in moving our state educator salaries to the national
average by 2008-2009. In a win for students across the state,
Gov. Easley also vetoed House Bill 706, which would have allowed
any teacher licensed in another state to receive certification in N.C,
even though quite a few states have lower standards than N.C.
Keeping high standards for teachers along with raising salaries on track
with the rest of the nation will have a positive impact on student
achievement statewide.
