Shade Structures

December 2006

The first shade structure is scheduled to be installed over the K-1 playground by the end of this month. Please note, December will be the last month to give to the No-Fuss Fundraiser. Remember, no donation is too small. We will continue to sell our first TCE cookbook for $10 each until Dec. 21 or while supplies last. Be a part of TCE history and purchase one! They make a great gift for anyone on your list. All proceeds go towards our shade structures. Plans are now under way to raise money in 2007 for our second shade structure to be installed over the 2-5 playground. The next Chick-fil-A night will be Thursday, Jan. 18, with a new twist: TCE staff and teachers will be helping to serve food that night!

As always, we appreciate everyone who has supported – and continues to do so – our fund raising efforts for the TCE community. We are always looking for new members and new ideas for our shade structur e fundraising committee. Please contact Cindy Thibault if you would like to help us in any way.

November 2006

Plans are in full swing to get our first shade structure up in December. A big THANK YOU goes out to Jeri Hasund who compiled our first TCE cookbook. We will continue to sell the cookbooks for $10 each through December 21 or while supplies last. Consider purchasing one not only for your own family, but also for grandparents, aunts & uncles, etc. It makes a great gift!

It's not too late to give to our no-fuss fundraiser if you haven't already done so. Again, we are so grateful to all in our TCE community who have and continue to be a part of this tremendous undertaking of raising such a large amount of money so that our children have shade on the playgrounds.

October 2006

YEAH!! We have been awarded the $8,000 grant from the American Academy of Dermatology and Johnson & Johnson, Inc. The first shade structure will be installed over the K-1 playground by the end of December. A special thank you to Jacqui Bunner, Hala Issa, Betsy Stiehm, Dawn Corbley, Dr. Chiritescu and Jan Hargrove for their help in putting this grant together. We all should feel proud that our efforts have produced this reality.

We will continue to fundraise for the second structure to go over the 2nd-5th grade playground. Most recently, over 900 letters were sent to Cary/Apex businesses asking for donations. Also, the TCE cookbooks will be available for $10 each at our Fall Festival on Oct. 28. Thanks again to our TCE community for your continued support of PTA fundraisers that benefit all our children.

September 2006

At this time, we have raised just over $12,000 towards our goal of $48,000 for the purchase of two shade structures that will cover the K-1 and 2-5 playground equipment. We are still waiting to hear if we have received grant money. As soon as we have enough money for one shade structure, we will begin installation. Thank you to all those who have generously donated to the No-Fuss Fundraiser this year. It's not too late to send in your donation; remember, no amount is too small!

All proceeds from our first TCE cookbook sale will help support our Shade Structures fund. Cookbooks will be available for purchase at our Fall Festival on Oct. 28. Thanks to everyone who submitted recipes.

We will continue to run "FUNraisers" until we have raised enough money for both shade structures. These "FUNraisers" not only benefit Shade Structures but are also a way for our TCE community to gather.

We are in the process of raising money to purchase shade structures to go over the K-1 and 2-5 playground equipment. The cost is approximately $24,000 per shade structure installed. We have recently applied for a grant and, if we receive it, we will have the first shade structure installed by December 2006.

Fundraising efforts for the Shade Structures fund are still underway to include a letter to local businesses asking for donations. Another is our successful Food for Shade Nights held on Thursday evenings. If you have a relationship with a business and could ask for a donation, please do so. A copy of the letter to businesses is on our website at www.tce-pta.org. Thanks for your support.

The sales of our first TCE Annual Cookbook will help support our Shade Structures fund, and we need your help! Email your favorite appetizer, salad, entree or dessert recipe to Jeri Hasund at jeri.hasund@att.net by Aug 31.
