Many parents choose to participate in carpool. The carpool
line at Turner Creek can be a long one. At arrival and
dismissal time, please help us keep student safety our top priority.
MORNING PROCEDURE
Carpool students arriving for the regular school day will use the
circle drive to the right of the school. They will be dropped off at
the main entrance. Buses will use the circle drive to the left of the
school. Students may arrive in the mornings at 8:45 so they can
get settled into their room. Please keep in mind the following:
- Drive slowly and cautiously around the school grounds, and
always be aware of what is going on around you.
- Refrain from using your cell phone once you enter the carpool
line to give full attention to driving and the safety of the children
and carpool staff.
- Keep your child buckled in his/her seat while waiting in line.
Have your child ready to exit the car when you pull up to the
drop-off point.
- Unload your car from the passenger's side, which faces the
sidewalk, instead of the driver's side. This allows staff to help
unload all cars more quickly and safely.
- Look in your side mirror and in front of your car before pulling
away from the sidewalk. Sometimes parents are walking children
across the carpool lane and into the school.
- Watch the road as you drive away instead of waving to your
child.
- Make a complete stop at the stop sign at Turner Creek Road as
you leave the school driveway. With the current home
construction behind the school, vehicles are using Turner Creek
Road to enter and exit the building site.
AFTERNOON PROCEDURE
Parents who pick up students in the afternoon must use the right
circle drive. Please keep in mind the following:
- Drive slowly and allow ample time for picking up children. There
is a lot of traffic after school.
Refrain from using your cell phone once you enter the carpool
line to give full attention to driving.
- Stay in a single line and follow the directions of the adults
on duty.
- Place your child's carpool tag on your rear view mirror where it
can be seen by your child and the carpool staff.
- Help your child learn his/her carpool number. This will expedite
the carpool procedure as well as ensure your child enters the
correct vehicle.
- Load your car from the passenger's side, which faces the
sidewalk, and make sure your child is safely buckled before
driving away. Shoulder belts should fit snugly across the center
of the shoulder, not under the arms or behind the back. Children
who misuse belts this way receive no upper body protection.
- Pick up your child by 4:00pm as teachers and staff members have
other duties to perform. If you arrive after 4:00pm, your
child will be taken to the main office and you must come in to sign him/her out.
- Students may not be checked out between 3:30 and 3:45pm
unless they have an appointment.
- If your child is to go home with a classmate after school, both
the hosting and visiting students must bring notes home from
their parents indicating the planned visit and transportation plans.
Due to crowding, students will not be allowed to ride a bus other
than their normal route, but may be picked up in a carpool. Both
students are to report to the school office on the morning of
the planned visit with their notes.
With your help, we can keep carpool safe and efficient for
everyone.
